Despite predictions of rain, the sun shined and smiled upon the estimated 240 people who attended the Douglas Tilden 5K: Walk/Run for Deaf Humanity event in Golden Gate park on Sunday. The event, which marked Douglas Tilden’s 150th birthday, was a collaborative fundraiser for the San Francisco Club for the Deaf, Deafhood Foundation, DCARA and Deaf Bilingual Coalition: Deaf Children’s Advocates. An estimated $11,000 was raised.
“It made me really happy to see the Deaf community come together, despite iffy weather, to support the cause of Deaf Humanity!” said Liz Brading, who served as the event Chair. “I would love to see this event become an annual event, and become bigger every year with more Deaf community members and allies involved as well as the general public. Thanks to all the people involved in making this happen and to my partner, Roz, for her support.”
